Lyn Beaton was born and grew up in Durban, where she married and raised a family. Lyn’s work experience included Textile design, window display art, illustration and graphic design. She later studied for and received a Degree in Fine Art at Natal Technical University before relocating to Knysna in 1998.
For the first 9 years in Knysna, Lyn taught art to both adults and children voluntarily in Damsebos/Nekkies, where her and her husband established the Masizame Art and Crafts Centre. Her voluntary work also included facilitating a 2 month ceramic tile making course to the inmates at Knysna Prison.
From 2007 until 2013 Lyn began running art classes for children at “The Art Room”, Old Gaol Centre, Knysna, which was more easily accessible to her at that time. Lyn runs classes for adults at her home studio facilitating in drawing and painting both for beginners and experienced artists, providing a peaceful and happy place where one can share, explore and discover one’s own creative ability.
Lyn has had one solo exhibition and regularly taken part in many group exhibitions in Knysna, two in Durban and in one in the UK where she was a member of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Art Society during 2015/16. Constantly exploring different mediums and genres, Lyn’s current work focuses on nature and more specifically plants, flowers and trees, and is fascinated by how we as humans are part of, and connected to the greater whole. She finds nature as being both symbolic and having metaphorical meaning of something much deeper in the human psyche.
