Elmari Bogenhofer’s art career originated backstage as a Decor painter, having studied and then becoming a lecturer at the Technikon Pretoria.
She has worked as a scenic artist for theatre and television productions and themed corporate events since 1993. In 2006 she scaled down her work onto canvas and participated in the Fresh Talent Exhibition at Alice Art Gallery in Johannesburg. Shortly thereafter Elmari made a career change; becoming a live-aboard sailor / traveller for 8 years, leaving her paintbrushes ashore. Upon returning to South Africa, they moved to Montagu where she joined the Montagu Art Association and has taken part in group exhibitions since then.
In 2021 she relocated to Knysna.
Her style varies as the art work develops and reveals itself. She works in oils or acrylics and uses a multitude of paraphernalia and incorporates various mediums and techniques to attain a layered effect in her landscape and still life paintings.
